Q. How are your prints made?

A. My limited edition original prints are hand-pulled using a silk screen press, and multiple screens. I custom mix all my inks by hand. To get a more complete description of the process, please visit my making art page.
The reproductions are museum quality giclée prints made with pigment inks that are fade resistant and will last over 100 years.

Q. What does Giclée mean?

A. Giclée (pronounced zhee-CLAY) is a printing process used to make museum quality reproductions. Unlike a typical home or office printer, the inks used in giclée are pigment based, not dye based. This allows them to sit on the surface of the paper (instead of being absorbed into it) in the same way that acrylic paints do. The process also utilizes 8 individual UV resistant ink colors (as opposed to the 4 non-UV resistant inks in a typical inkjet printer). This makes for a wider color range, and produces richer, more saturated colors than is possible with other printing methods. It is also resistant to fading or color shifts for over 100 years. This allows me to faithfully reproduce the rich colors and textures of the original prints in a more affordable reproduction.

Q. Do you use acid free materials?

A. All papers, inks, matting and mounting materials are 100% acid free and conservation grade. Under proper care they will easily last generations.

Q. Who is responsible for getting Pete started in this venture?

A. My best friends Matt & Jeff of Choke Shirt Co. have given me their enduring support, and through the generous use of their studio, the space and equipment necessary for me to see this project through to reality. I must also acknowledge Allison Delong who, many years ago, organized a holiday card making party. Many years of holiday cards eventually led to the full size art you see on the site today.

Q. Where are you located?

A. I am located in Seattle, WA, USA (in case you couldn't tell from my subject matter).

Q. Do any galleries or stores carry your prints?

A. Not at this time, but if you know someone who would like to sell them, please let me know!

Q. Do you print custom posters and cards?

A. Yes, I am taking custom orders for posters, cards, and other flat-stock papers. These custom prints are being managed through Choke Print Shop. Please contact them at printshop@chokeshirtco.com

Q. I manage/own a café/restaurant, can we put your art on our walls?

A. YES! Please contact me at art@pjl-design.com.

Q. I manage/own an art gallery, how do I contact you about doing a show?

A. YES! Please contact me at gallery@pjl-design.com.

Q. How are prints packaged for shipping?

A. Prints are wrapped in cellophane for protection against moisture, then placed between two stiff boards for protection from shipping blunders.

Q. Do you offer frames for your prints?

A. At this time I do not have pre-framed prints available, though I am looking into it. If the demand is great enough I may offer that option, so let me know if this is something you would like. All matted prints are sized to standard frame sizes (11x14, 16x20 & 20x24), so you should be able to find a suitable frame at any frame shop for a reasonable price - though I'm sure unreasonably priced ones are available there too.

Q. Do you have any upcoming shows?

A. Check my Now Showing page for a list of events I will be at. If you know of an event that you think I would be a good fit for, please let me know!
